FCC VE Testing

The W5YI Volunteer Examiner(VE) testing team conducts amateur radio license exams on the 3rd Saturday of each EVEN numbered month

Testing begins @ 9:00am
Exam fee is $14.00 (cash or check)

The testing location is the SARA Clubhouse on the grounds of the Greenwood Flea Market in Greenwood, LA.

The FCC requires all applicants for amateur radio licenses to obtain an
FCC Registration Number(FRN)
at least 48 hours before showing up for their exam.

Be sure to bring a physical printed copy of your FRN or a printed Official copy (Reference copy will not be accepted) of your current amateur radio license, if upgrading to General/Extra with you to the testing session, as it must be mailed in with your application to the FCC.

An FRN is REQUIRED documentation as part of the exam team submitting its paperwork to the W5YI VEC for submission to the FCC.

On exam day bring the following items:

  1. A legal photo ID (driver’s license, passport). If no photo ID is available, two forms of identification must be presented:
    • Non-photo ID/drivers license
    • Birth Certificate
    • Social Security card
    • Utility bill or bank statement showing the person’s current address as it appears on Form 605
  2. Bring a physical printed copy of your FRN or a printed copy of your current official amateur radio license
  3. A calculator (with memory erased and formulas cleared) is allowed
  4. Pencils and scratch paper will be provided
  5. Cell phones should be turned off
  6. The current exam session fee is $14.00 cash or check
  7. Testing begins at 9:00 AM
